Geektastic: Stories from the Nerd Herd

Geekery is not limited to Star Wars fans and gamers. Geeks come in all shapes and sizes, all colors and creeds, and they form loving obsessions with all sorts of things.

Geektastic, edited Holly Black and Cecil Castellucci (call# Y 813.53 Gee), gives a glimpse into many of these areas. From a die hard majorette forced to move to a school with zero school spirit to a well armed LARP’r, this collection of short stories covers it all.

This book was SO much fun to read (it doesn’t hurt that I’m a proud Geek and I get most of the jokes mentioned in the stories). Lovers of Star Trek, Buffy, Doctor Who, the Theatre, Rocky Horror, Online Gaming, anime, conventions, Cos-Play, marching band, RPGs and classic sci-fi should consider this required reading.

The stories are short and penned by some of the coolest authors in YA fiction today. Even one story doesn’t grab you or you find yourself wondering what the heck is going on, just skip to the next one. This book also features some comic strips that celebrate Geekery in all its forms.
