Google Science Fair, The First Online Global Science Competition!

Check out the brand new Google Science Fair!

Participation in this Competition is open to individuals who are full-time students between the ages 13 – 18 and enrolled in a private or public school. Home schooled students between the ages of 13 – 18 are also eligible. An eligible minor must have his/her parent’s or legal guardian’s permission to enter this Competition.

Entrants can submit Projects in any one of the following categories:

1.Computer Science & Math

2.Earth & Environmental Sciences

3.Behavioral & Social Sciences

4.Flora & Fauna

5.Energy & Space

6.Inventions & Innovation




10.Food Science

11.Electricity & Electronics


Grand Prize:

The one (1) Grand Prize Winner will receive a US$50,000 Scholarship from Google and his or her choice of experience from CERN, Google, LEGO or Scientific American.

Category Prizes:

The two (2) Category Winners who did not win the Grand Prize will receive a US$25,000 Scholarship from Google and Sponsor’s choice of Experience from CERN, Google, LEGO or Scientific American. The offered Experience Prizes will consist of one (1) the following (ARV of each $3,500):

LEGO Virtual Internship

A Virtual Internship with the LEGO MINDSTORMS R&D team - the chance to participate in LEGO future development, and take part in the innovation process, putting their mark on coming products.

Scientific American

Scientific American will offer the recipient (plus a guardian if necessary) the opportunity to spend three (3) days at the New York, NY office of Scientific American where they will be given a bird’s eye view on how the 165 year old magazine is put together from the story pitch stage through the editing process. The recipient will participate in staff meetings, be involved in the editorial process and have the opportunity to shadow Editor in Chief Mariette DiChristina.


CERN will offer the recipient (plus a guardian if necessary) the opportunity to spend five (5) days at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, where they will be able to visit the labs and some of the experimental areas (depending on the chosen period, some areas may be inaccessible) take part in shifts in the LHC experiments' Control Rooms, and experience science in the making, taking an active role as an apprentice physicists.


Google will offer the recipient (plus a guardian if necessary) the opportunity to spend three (3) days at Google’s research site in Zurich where they will be able to take part in a tour, workshops and get involved in some hands-on work.

People’s Choice (Finalist) Prize:

The one (1) People’s Choice Prize Winner will receive a US$10,000 Scholarship from Google.

Trip (Finalist) Prizes:

The fifteen (15) Finalists will receive a Lego Goodie bag, a Google Goodie Bag and up to a three (3) day/two (2) night trip (length of trip dependent on country of origin and associated travel times at Sponsor’s discretion) for Finalist and if applicable all Team Members (and his/her parent or legal guardian, if Finalist is a minor) to Mountain View, CA, USA for the opportunity to participate in the final winner selection event, on or about July 11, 2011. Exact dates of the trip will be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion.
