Lexi is cursed with a dark secret. Each day she goes to school like a normal teenager, and each night she must swim, or the pain will be unbearable. She is a siren - a deadly mermaid destined to lure men to their watery deaths. After a terrible tragedy, Lexi shut herself off from the world, vowing to protect the ones she loves. But she soon finds herself caught between a new boy at school who may have the power to melt her icy exterior, and a handsome water spirit who says he can break Lexi's curse if she gives up everything else. Lexi is faced with the hardest decision she's ever had to make: the life she's always longed for - or the love she can't live without?
Before you judge this book purely on the fact that it seems to be a mermaid tale, read the first page. Lexi's tale ensnared my mind, and I gladly accepted my fate. I read this book in one day. It was just that captivating.
On Lexi's sixteenth birthday the ocean began to call to her and she could not resist the initial temptation. In her joy she decided to take her boyfriend, Steven, with her to the ocean behind his house. A night to remember became her worst nightmare. She had killed her crush with her deadly siren song. That day she became withdrawn, no longer speaking to her friends in an attempt to distance herself and to protect them. Her friends nicknamed her the Ice Princess.
Two years later on one of her nightly swims in a lake surrounded by dense forest, Lexi's life will be changed. Steven's best friend,Cole, is at her lake. Lexi is forced not to swim to save his life, enduring her body's rebellion the next day because of his unexpected visit. Slowly Cole manages to reawaken Lexi from her shell-like life. He is able to make her smile again. However, their relationship will be challenged with the arrival of Erik and his "cure".
